ICC MESSAGE OF PRID Katerina Kostali Papadimitriou

Rotary International recognizes the increasing importance of the role of Intercountry Committees (ICC) in the achievement of our Strategic Priorities and Objectives.

ICC is an approved Rotary affiliated networking initiative which promotes the development of relationships between two or more countries and/or international districts with the purpose to foster interpersonal fellowships, intercultural understanding, and grow bonds all over the globe.

By definition ICC develop networks across national borders and through continents, creating and nurturing long term bonds and ties in the Rotary family between the nations, the districts and down to clubs and their members.

They offer a powerful support to all Rotary International and TRF programs, and are instrumental in the search for international partners for Global Grants, develop inter-club relationships and conduct Friendship Exchanges between countries.

ICC adopt a simple and flexible structure while they are expanding Rotary’s service by engaging in the development of large-scale projects in Rotary Foundation’s Areasof Focus, and in particular promoting peace. They play an important role in the positive development of Rotary membership through dedicated programs for young people and the setting up of new Rotary and Rotaract clubs.

Significant projects, already accomplished, like the response to the humanitarian crisis, provoked by the war in Ukraine, highlight the importance of ICCs and contribute to create positive change in our part of the world. The chartering of many ICC in the recent years allow us to be optimistic for a more peaceful world and meaningful impact on communities through Rotary.

ICC are part of the program of RI Conventions and major events at Zone level.

The 2021 R.I. ICC Preconvention included excellent panel discussions underscoring the role of ICC and through interactive sessions provided significant information on their impact on making our world a better place to live.

In the Multi-Zone Institute held in Prague in 2021 we had the opportunity to promote successful projects accomplished in the frame of ICC and in the upcoming Zone 21 Institute to be held in Limassol (Cyprus) in November a plenary session as well as a booth at the House of Friendship are dedicated to this great networking initiative.

Inter-Country Committees form a practical framework for promoting peace and service, beyond borders and could be characterized as the best partner in successfully practicing International Service.
