Bruno Scovazzi: A Life of Engineering, Leadership, and Rotary Service

Bruno Scovazzi, born in 1942 in Acqui Terme, Piedmont, Italy, earned his high school diploma from the Saracco Classical High School in Acqui Terme, then graduated in mechanical engineering at the Politecnicodi Torino (Italy).

He worked for many years in an American company, first in the design of internal combustion engine testing systems, then in automotive quality control, and then moved into IT, eventually becoming Information Operating Manager in the European data processing center of this company.

The second part of his professional career developed in an Italian company in the publishing sector, focusing on work organization and the implementation of Personal Computing in a Local Area Network architecture for all of the company’s Italian branches.

He married Giovanna in 1970 and has two sons, Guglielmo, a professor at Duke University (NC, USA) and Paolo, a vascular surgeon in Cuneo (Italy), and two granddaughters, Olimpia and Ottavia.

A Rotary member since 1994 (9 PHF), he has served as a club Secretary and club President; he held the position of district secretary of D-2030 RY 2011-2012.

He is chair of the Rotary Foundation fundraising committee of district 2031, starting from 2013 until today.

He was a member of the board of the Rotary Inter-Country Committees Executive Council in RY 2014-2016 and RY 2024-2026.

He was also services manager and webmaster of ICC Executive Council during RY 2014-2020.

In the RY 2024-2026 period he was responsible for administration and archives of ICC Executive Council.

He is webmaster of ICC Italy, Malta, San Marino.

He has always cultivated social relationships with many people with great enthusiasm throughout his life.As a young man, he practiced many sports, embracing the motto taught to him by his father, a doctor: “Menssana in corpore sano”.

When he retired, he discovered the beauty of amateur cycling, to which he devoted himself with great passion, initially with countless bike rides with friends in the hills of Piedmont and the mountains and passes of the Alps. Later, he also participated in numerous amateur cycling races: the most beautiful, the one that gave him the greatest satisfaction and which he always remembers with great fondness, was the Granfondo Milano-Sanremo, raced at the age of 70 in under 11 hours on the same day, on the very same 290 km course as the “classicissimadi primavera” of professional cyclists.
