The Door Is Open: Rotarians and Rotaractors, Are You Ready to Explore the Magic?

For 76 years, Rotary’s Intercountry Committees have built peace one friendship, one twin club and one cross-border project at a time. Yet the 2026 Perception Survey of 442 Rotarians across 134 districts shows a familiar picture. Many Rotarians and Rotaractors stand at the window, looking in with admiration. They do not realise the door is already open and a seat at the table is waiting for them.

The numbers tell the story. 88% know of ICCs and 80% rate them essential or very important, yet only 42% say they fully understand how ICCs work.

Twin Clubs and Friendship Exchanges, the tools closest to everyday Rotary life, are recognised by just 42% and 43% of members. People know our name, but far fewer know what we offer.

The conviction is real and lasting. It has held steady across six survey waves, even as the sample nearly tripled. Meanwhile, 151 members are convinced or curious but have never taken part, and 90% say they are open to learning more. They are not saying no. They are waiting to be shown the way in.

Part of the reason lies with us. Members ask for proof of impact: 71% want practical project examples, 53% want clearer basic information and 51% want simple guidance on how to join. Some point to committees that exist only on paper and leaders who never rotate.

There is also a wider window we must face honestly. Entire countries, regions and even continents have very few active ICC sections or relationships, and some have none at all. Peacebuilding cannotremain a conversation among a few familiar partners.

The 2026–2028 Strategic Plan is built to help you walk through the door:

Review every committee or section. All section+ ICC relationships published on our web site will be reviewed in Year 1, so each can be revitalised, paused or closed.

Reach more languages. A mobile-first digital hub will serve 15+ languages, starting with Rotary’s eight official languages.

Show real impact. A project story library will support a target of 75+ multi-country Global Grants and three Peace Forums each year.

Pilot in 100 districts. A new ICC Chair framework will be piloted in at least 100 districts, including regions where ICCs have been absent.

Rotaractors, this invitation is especially for you. Today 34% of you are interested in ICCs, but only 12% are active, the widest gap in the survey.

The new plan sets a 60% Rotaract co-leadership target across ICC initiatives. You are not being offered a seat at the back of the room; you are being asked to help lead. Open the dashboard, find a region waiting for a partner and ask ICC Basic how to begin. Are you ready to explore the magic?

So how long will you keep watching through the window? If your country shows no active ICC, you could be the one who opens the first door. Talk to your club’s ICC representative, ask your district about the next ICC session, or propose a twin club or joint project.
